I gave my life to Christ at age 12. At that age, I didn’t think I was ready for the journey ahead of me but after listening to the preacher that day, I felt this calling and calmness in my heart to go publicly to say “Christ is my saviour”. There is something so pure and freeing about accepting Christ openly. Sure I was raised in a Christian family and I was taught the basics but that day it occurred to me that I could not continue to piggyback on my parent’s background. I knew deep down that I was lacking and I had to make that decision for myself.
After receiving Christ, did it prevent me from sinning? No. I went on to live and many times I sinned against God. The truth is that once saved always saved is not a one-way ticket to heaven. Accepting Christ is the beginning of a journey, a process of change that continues for a lifetime. It has to be this way because we live in a sinful world. Do you know that you can accept Christ as Lord and saviour and still end up in hell if there is no true repentance? Jesus says in Matthew 15:8 “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me”. Are you honouring God with your hearts today? Have you chosen Jesus Christ for yourself today?
Make him your all, let his way become your way, let his words become life to you, let his holiness drive you to live holy. We will stand as individuals before God on our last days. Our parents won’t be there, neither will our pastors or priests be there to answer for us. Sure you will make mistakes every now and then but I guarantee that as long as you make Jesus your life, you will never go back to where you came from. Your desire will be to always please him above all. The journey is never over till we close our eyes in this world. We must continue to choose Jesus every day no matter what life throws at us. Amen!!!
