Pride and the double standard Christian

Interesting title I must say because this is a topic many Christians don’t want to talk about. Friends, it does not matter who you are or where you are, when the Lord starts dealing with you on certain issues, you can’t run from it. Everyone says they understand pride, so my question is, do we really know pride for what it is? It can take any form or shape; it has the capacity to destroy lives, marriages and God given destinies. Pride seeks to satisfy fleshy desires and so I define it as the unwillingness to submit to the authority of Jesus Christ. We all know the greatest story of pride, which was the fall of Lucifer and one third of the angels (Ezekiel 28:14-19). Lucifer, now called Satan was a created angel whose role was to guard the throne along with the Cherubim’s. He was blameless till iniquity and guilt (lawlessness, violence, pride, corrupted wisdom) was found in him, and he was cast out of God’s kingdom and his place of authority (Isaiah 14:12-19; Jude 1:6).

In John 8:44 Jesus calls Satan the father of lies, and yet he has so blinded the eyes and minds of unbelievers to his true intent (Bondage) (2Corinthians 4:4; 2Corinthians 11:14) and masquerades as an angel of light. So we really have to resist and be on guard against the father of lies only by submitting to God (James 4:7). You see, as believers, Jesus has given us authority over demons but he warns against rejoicing that the demons submit to us (Pride), rather rejoice that our names are written in heaven. This comes as a warning that Satan is not to be feared but at the same time should not be taken lightly.

Sometime last year, my husband and I got into an argument because I was watching keeping up with the Kardashians every day. Now, I will tell you at this point that I was never interested in shows that had such drama or worldly thinking in the form of entertainment. I had been at home for a year, had a miscarriage, no job, no studying, I was getting frustrated and my emotions where all over the place. I was in the why me Lord phase? Instead of running to God, I ran to the TV and believe it or not, one thing you should never say as a child of God is I will never be transformed like them because that is an exhibition of pride (Jeremiah 9:23). Only the grace and love of God gives you the power to discern iniquity and flee from it. The bible says in proverbs 21:4 “Haughty eyes and a proud heart the unplowed field of the wicked produce sin”. My husband was getting worried and he said “this is not the Chichi I know”.

So now I get defensive and say “I am at home and I believe I deserve to enjoy myself. I am no good with fashion, maybe I can learn and see what and what I can put together, nothing trashy but just to look good”. My husband called me out on it and rebuked every single thing I said. He used the word of God to speak to the demon that is pride (cloaked as relaxation and enjoyment). Brethren, after that argument, the one thing I could not get out of my mind was my husband’s question on “what is your motive for watching this show?” This show goes against everything a child of God should be. We have to be careful as children of God what we take in and what we see. Never fail to also ask yourself what is the motive behind my actions? We have to guard our hearts because out if flows the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). Then the Holy Spirit started dealing with me on the issue of pride and living outside the calling of God. I allowed the depression to eat into my life, and that was the window of opportunity the enemy needed to set up camp in my life. I thank God my husband was equipped to see through the vices of the enemy.

Later that night, scriptures like (Proverbs 16:18; Proverbs 11:2; Philippians 2:3) started to remove the veil over my eyes. Proverbs 13:10 says “By pride and insolence comes only contention, but with the well advised is skilful and Godly wisdom”. Oh I tell you I was ready for wisdom. Then the Lord said “if you are ready for wisdom, do not live a double standard life because that is a dangerous road for any child of God to be in”. The media is very skilful at displaying pleasures of the world to society and children of God eat out of it. One more month of that show and I would have been dressing like them, probably even started thinking like them.

It is important that you only renew your mind with the word of God (Romans 12:1-2 says “ I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and well pleasing to God which is your reasonable service and spiritual worship. Do not conform to this world, fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in his sight for you”). This verse is the extra juice needed to live the full life that Jesus has given us. You cannot afford to relax when the enemy is roaring around, seeking whom to devour. Pride is sin that has affected mankind and we have to guard against it at all cost. Proverbs 8:13 says “To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behaviour and perverse speech”.

Fear of God is not that of he will smite me if I don’t do his will; it means reverence, respect and honour. When you honour and respect your wife, husband or parent, you cannot do unsightly things before them, unless they have taken after the world. Pride of life is the reason we have atheists and agnostics, people who probably due to the pains that the world has inflicted on them decide to seek independence away from the almighty God. Now how can these souls come to Christ when Christians themselves behave like them, speak like them and engage in certain activities they perform?

Few things I will say regarding double standard living as a Christian (2 Kings 17:33 “They worshiped the Lord, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought”); Ensure to adjust your lifestyle to suite the standards of God, do not waste your time on things (self-help books, media) that do not improve Godly character, do not be crowd pleasers, you cannot serve God and money, a genuine child of God will never be comfortable around ungodly characters, your actions must show the mark of sonship of Christ Jesus. The time has come for Christians to remain under the authority of God and say yes to his will and desire alone. The world is bad enough as it is and the last thing we need are double standard Christians, who are scared to profess God and say no to evil. You cannot ask God to heal your marriage while you commit adultery, wives refuse to submit to husbands and husbands failing to love their wives and become priests in the family.

You cannot ask God to help in your studies, when your plan is to copy from your friend or the person sitting next to you. You blame God for depression and inability to function, when you partake in ungodly activities like tarot cards, palm reading, psychics, hypnotism, magic arts and Halloween (Revelations 21:8; Deuteronomy 18:10-12; Galatians 5:19-21). You cannot complain to God about your business failing, when you spend the money on prostitutes and pave way for the devil. You cannot ask God for financial growth, when your hands are super glued and stingy. You cannot blame God for not giving you husband, while you dress immodestly and promote lust of flesh and eyes.

I urge you to listen to the testimonies of ladies like Carol Kornacki and Lisa Gwinn on YouTube. These women have tested and used the power of darkness, and now they have come to know the supreme power and love of the almighty God. You will benefit a lot from hearing what they have to say and you will begin to see how cunning the enemy is, and how he is currently holding a lot of Christians in bondage without them even knowing it. This generation will swallow and eat up any lukewarm Christian, if you let your guard down for any reason. We are all going through life and everything that comes with it, so cast all your cares on Jesus Christ and let him carry you brothers and sisters (1Peter 5:8-10).

You must have a strong conviction of who you are in Christ, so that you are attentive to the spirit of God. Christ is the light that has come to remove darkness from our lives. Rejecting Christ and his words, is rejecting salvation and redemption. In John 12:47-48 Jesus says “If anyone hears my teachings and disregards them, it is not I who judges him. For I have not come to condemn and pass sentence and to inflict penalty on the world, but to save it. Anyone who rejects me and persistently sets me at naught, refusing to accept my teachings, has his judge however; for the very message that I have spoken will itself judge and convict him at the last day”.  I encourage you all brethren to seek the lord’s face today and accept him into your lives as personal lord and saviour. Amen.

These words are edifying and can save those who diligently seek the Lord. Let us seek God and live (Amos 5:4). These articles are power-packed and filled with the anointing of transformation. We are blessed for these words are true and can set us free.

To God be the glory my brother, the kingdom of darkness has no power over those who seek the almighty God.
