Do you ever feel left out? Do you think the hurt is too much and your heart can never be repaired? Do you wonder why your friend or relatives get what you have been asking God for? Do you wonder if God’s purpose for you will ever come to pass? Did you ever think that the doors will open for you at the right time? Have you been told that hard work was all you needed? Do you ever feel like all your work, and in my case studies was all in vain? Well I am here to tell you that I have thought about all these. Friends, I promise you that God sees his children and he knows your pain. The scripture says in Hebrews 4:15 that Jesus our high priest understands and has shared in our weaknesses and infirmities because he was tempted just as we are now.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, He will not fail you or forsake you. Psalm 34:15 says “The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. The king of kings came to us and showed us how to respond when we are confused, depressed, facing trials and temptations. The only way to know and understand his will for our lives is through prayers and studying the word of God. This bible has wisdom that one can ever need, all we have to do is go and withdraw the grace that Jesus has given us through the cross. He said, it is finished, meaning every sickness, curses, death and sin have been crucified with him.
Now, what I am trying to show you is that as a believer, you will experience suffering just like an unbeliever because we are in this fallen world but Jesus has given us a way out. 1 Corinthians 10:13-14 says “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. So avoid by flight if need be and sort of Idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God)”.
Several years ago, a friend asked me “How did you know that God wanted you to study Microbiology”, and I said I didn’t. My mum told me, ever since I was a little girl, I was always interested in medicine and teaching. Well, I did pursue the dream of studying medicine, and it never worked out after 4 years. I came to South Africa to start afresh till I got my Microbiology degree, and yet again I could not get enrolled into medicine. I called my mother in tears asking why God has failed to give me my dream. She said “Have you ever stopped to consider what it is that God wants for you, rather than what you are chasing”. I didn’t put much thought into her words, so I continued to get my master’s degree. I could not continue with a PhD due to certain circumstances and the serious effect it had on my health.
Then, my mother’s words came back to me again. Brethren, while I stayed at home for the past year and a half, I began to ask the Lord questions regarding his will for my life. It started to occur to me that God allowed me to remain at home, with no distractions and no research because it was time we had a talk. After 11 years of studying, I was stripped away of everything that I thought made me powerful (in this case my degrees and knowledge), and now It was the Holy Spirit and myself. I am not saying that my studies from the University was a waste, however when you lack knowledge in the word of God, you are bound to fail (Hosea 4:6).
The molding began and I started to learn things about myself through the eyes of the father, in ways that I could not imagine. I realized that one of my greatest talents was talking, and now I am using that talent to bring people to God’s rest. In my quiet times, I began to recall the trials I had been through as a student in South Africa, and the Lord said to my heart “I never left you and I never forgot about you. I was right there when you were without food for days on end, I was right there the day you wanted to take your own life, I was there when you had to stitch up your clothes from time to time because you could not afford clothes, I was there with you when your pillow became a pool of tears, I was with you when you got to move flats 7 times because you had no money to pay.
Your earthly father may have forsaken you but I never did. I used all that pain to mould you into who you are today. I have more in store for you and all you have to do is trust me”. I saw the word of God in Psalm 9:10 “and those who know your name will put their trust in You, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you”. You have to know God’s name and you have to constantly seek him. This is the secret to knowing his will for your life, the direction you will go and the mercies and favour that you will receive.
There have been many events in my life that have shown God is always true to his words but I will mention two events. The first was when I almost took my life on Easter Sunday of 2011, after being tormented for two days straight by the evil one. If you have been following my blogs, you will read about that story in the message lifted by grace. The second event was when I had starved for three days. At this time, the enemy had already started manipulating my father, and he lost sight of his wife and children. I had no money to buy food but I kept attending all my lectures. On the fourth day, I came back to my flat and cried my heart out onto the Lord and read the word. Ten minutes after I had finished praying, I heard a knock on my door and I opened. A young lady from Cameroon asked if I was Chichi, and I said yes that is me. She smiled and said I can’t explain this but while I was cooking in my room, I heard a voice tell me to go withdraw a 150 rand and bring it to this room. I was confused at first, and then it dawned on me that Jehovah heard my cry and had sent this lady to me.
Praise God my friends, nothing is impossible with God and he knows the heart of his own. John 10:27-28 says “The sheep that are my own hear and listen to my voice, and I know them and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages, and no one is able to snatch them from my hands”. Death and starvation could not snatch me away because I know his name and listened to his voice.
Serving the Lord is not easy because of the world we live in, never loose heart because God will never ever forsake you. We have to cling to the faith we have in Christ and trust that he will always guide us in the right paths. Think about Abraham (how he was blessed and became the father of many nations), think of Joseph (how after 30 years, the Lord guided him and made him Prime Minister over all of Egypt), think of Daniel (whose unshakable faith and trust in God brought him safe out of the Lion’s den), think of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego (who refused idolatry and were protected in the flames of fire by Jehovah). I am comforted by the scripture in John 16:33 (I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world). The last words I have overcome the world in the amplified bible classic edition writes (I have deprived it of its power to harm you and have conquered it for you).
Be encouraged that our heavenly father fights our battles for us, and he never forgets his own. I am a living witness, not because of anything special but because I truly believe in my heart that Jesus loves me. When you love someone, you instantly trust them. God has given us free will and you have the right to choose, just remember that life is harder without Christ in it. Have that bold faith in his promises, that he who began the good works in your life will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). Never get tired of asking and praying because in John 16: 24, 26 and 27 Jesus says “ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. You only have to ask the father in my name for the work is done. The father loves you tenderly because you loved me and believed that I came from him”.
In my second year at University, I was sitting in the cafeteria and I happened to hear a girl tell her friends that she has no money to pay for her fees but she believes God will pay it. I walked up to her and asked, what assurance do you have that your fees will be paid? She said, it is in the word and I believe it. I kept in touch with her for a while, and a week before the final exams, some anonymous donated money to her parents for her fees. I saw the power of bold faith in this lady’s life. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Never give up, keep clinging to God and consult him for every life’s decisions, and he will never fail you. Friends, I believe we can live victorious lives on earth because God has not forgotten you (who lost a loved one, who is hurting from a break up and heartache, who needs a job, who wants to succeed in their exams, who is searching for a life partner, who longs for the fruit of the womb, who are care givers, who is searching for his or her life’s purpose, who wants success in their business). God is faithful to keep his promises. May the Lord bless his words and may it bear fruits in your hearts in Jesus name, Amen.
If you want to accept Jesus as the Lord of your life, please say this prayer with me; Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and make it new. Today I receive you as my Lord and saviour, today I live for you, today I surrender to you, and today I am in love with you. Thank you for loving me and for writing my name in the book of life in Jesus name, Amen.
