Bondage series (Fear)

The world has become more corrupt than we have ever seen in the past years because we are willingly choosing to be ignorant of the word of God, and thus we fall into bondage. I believe bondage is always spiritual, whether it is physical, mental or emotional. Through Adam, sin entered the world but through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have been saved. Disregarding the word of God is allowing spiritual strongholds (pain, sickness and stress) into our lives, and the enemy is a master minder in setting up shop in the heart of one who rejects Christ. I will define bondage as the inability to enjoy God’s grace to the fullest due to evil strongholds. There are so many ways the enemy puts us in bondage and they include; fear, contracts and covenants (soul ties), idols and relics, sexual immorality (lust, fornication, adultery), witchcraft, unforgiveness, slander and unconfessed sins.

I will discuss few of them in other messages but today, I will focus on fear because the battle starts between your ears and in your minds as Joyce Meyer rightly puts it. Who have you been listening to? What are you believing and declaring?  Fear is Satan’s greatest weapon of warfare, and the only way of defeating him is through the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimonies (Revelation 12:11). It is important we renew our minds with the word of God so that we understand how to deal with fear (Romans 12:2). Many people think that if they don’t talk about the devil, he will not bother them. Well, that is the biggest lie from the pit of hell. Satan will never tell you he is the problem, he will always make you believe God is responsible, and thus keeping you in bondage. Satan comes from the Hebrew word (Saytan/Shaitan), which means adversary and one who slanders.

Fear can be positive or negative. The reverential fear of God is positive, which is rooted in love, worship and awe for healthy building of one’s soul. The negative fears are sometimes unknown (false/fake/mirage) because there is a slanderer whispering things in our ears. These negative fears bring up questions like what does the future hold? Will I finish college? Will I ever get married? Will I ever have a job? Will I lose my job? How will I survive this illness? Will I ever have children? Why am I facing these trials? Where did I go wrong? Will my marriage last? These unholy fears start with thoughts, you believe them, you declare them and then the stronghold is built.

I listened to Pastor Joseph Prince and he defined fear as FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL. Brethren, we have to be careful of the things we think, feel and declare because spoken words travel through the spirit realm, and the enemy is waiting to hang on to these negative declarations and bring them to pass. The word of God, through the understanding of the Holy Spirit bears witness to the powerful love and grace of Jesus Christ, through which every spiritual bondage is neutralized (1 John 4:18).

Most churches are teaching and showing off miracles, instead of equipping the children of God on how to identify and fight spiritual warfare. We must not be ignorant of the evil one by taking him lightly but at the same time, we should not be superficial Christians, who are fearful of Satan and his demons because they are focusing on the sin within. One thing the devil has is persistence, which is why Paul asks us to be persistent in prayers because the enemy will not stop (Ephesians 6:18; 1Thesalonians 5:17). Cast the enemy out and he will go find forces greater and come back. When they return, they must find the Holy Spirit in you as the master and helper in this warfare.

We are at war people, and do not be deceived because a lot of people are in bondage (money, fame, rights and laws, worldly self-confidence, worldly ideologies and philosophies) and they do not know it. I am crying out to you all because we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities (demons of high ranking with a mission to cause damage) (Ephesians 6:12). Do not let the enemy bring you to fear by saying you are not good, worthy or righteous enough, so God will not forgive or hear you. Tell him enough is enough because Jesus Christ is your salvation and righteousness, and with him you are made right with God.

The night before my final exam as an undergraduate, the enemy began to whisper and put fears into me. He says “I know you studied hard but is it enough? Your father abandoned you in South Africa, so he doesn’t care if you pass or fail. Is it worth it? What would be the need to write the exam? After all university is not for everyone”. This was not the first time the enemy has tried to discourage me, he was persistent because he knew how important this last exam was. In that moment, I became afraid that I would not remember all that I studied and I began to weep till I fell asleep. When I awoke at 6am to get ready for the 8am exam, my right arm and hands would not move and I could not feel anything. I got even more sacred because I need my right hand to write. Thank God my phone was close to me, and I called my father in the Lord and he began to pray for me. I renounced the fears and declarations from last night and I felt life come back into my arms. I give God the glory because that exam was one of the distinctions I had.

Brethren, let us continue to renounce and rebuke the strongholds through the blood of Jesus Christ in whom all things are made new. The Lord is good and is aware of everything that concerns you, he knows we are sinful and a times weak but don’t let that stop you from speaking to him and allowing him fight for you. The Lord says many times in the bible, “do not be afraid” (Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:9; Isaiah 35:4; Isaiah 41:10-14; Isaiah 43:1; Isaiah 54:14-16). If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour please do so, for without Christ, the end is destruction. Do not run from him or reject him due to circumstances, anger or worldly ideologies. He is Alpha and Omega, he is the breaker of bondages and he already has a special plan for your future.

Thanks for the write-up. In a world where the devil constantly makes us believe lies, we need to always be reminded of our position in Christ
