We live in times when everybody wants to be heard and called impressive. Our sinful nature desires to rebel against God in order to walk our own paths. So anything or anyone that tries to stop us from taking that path scares us. Jesus tell us in Matthew 10:39 “whoever finds his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], and whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with me for all eternity]”. Jesus is saying that if you chose to protect your sin lifestyle and embrace your own way of thinking, then spiritual and physical death is sure to be your portion. On the other hand, those who forsake their own lives and way of thinking in order to strive, seek and live in righteousness (chose to obey God and live according to his standards no matter the cost), eternal life with Jesus will surely be their portion.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the word of God (bible) is alive and active, meaning it will do what it speaks and will not lie. The bible is alive because it has the power to breathe life (reveals the truth about God and ourselves in a way that no one will ever be able to explain) into those who believe and walk in God’s will. The bible is active because, through it, the Holy Spirit sharpens the minds and hearts of whoever diligently reads it, triggers supernatural favour, endows with unwavering faith in the face of difficulties, and constantly provides the will to keep moving.
The same verse in Hebrews also tells us that the word of God is a two-edged sword piercing between soul and spirit, bone and marrow, and judging our every thought and intention. The bible is like a mirror that shows us how flawed we are, as well as how or where we need to make changes. We never want to be held accountable for anything, so we give ourselves names such as atheists or agnostics and find ways to disprove God or not acknowledge his existence. For our own sake, our intentions and thoughts must be convicted in order to bring us back to the original plan, creation, and purpose of God.
In this day and age, it is very easy and tempting to forsake the word of God in a bit to please and embrace the world. As one preacher said, “We have sacrificed holiness on the altar of impressions”. Our lives are temporary and when we close our eyes to this world, our ability to make a choice is gone, instead, we are at the mercy of the supernatural realm. What we do with our lives now will echo throughout eternity.
I am not here to force the bible on you; however, if you want to live the full life that Jesus paid the price for, it is best to make the bible your best book, your best guide, your best motivation, and the path to eternal life. No matter where you are or how far you may have gone into sin, come to Jesus (the living word) and let his words transform you. So, I implore you all today to make a conscious decision that by the help of the Holy Spirit, you will read the word of God and desire to obey it. Amen!!!
